How to preserve wood?

Ok so I live in Wisconsin and about 13,000 years ago the glacier receded and this forest grew for about 300 years. They the glacier re-advanced covering this forest in clay rich sediment that didn't allow oxygen in so they forest didn't decompose. The wood isn't petrified though. So I have this 13,000 year old wood that I pulled out of the sediment and I wonder what is the best way to preserve it. I don't what it to start to decomposing, but maybe just keeping it dry will take care of that.
